I don’t know how I stumbled upon this gem of a book but I am glad I did! It is a beautiful book showcasing the power of storytelling. I found myself getting shivers many time throughout it because it kept confirming what I already knew - storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have as humans.

Writing Tools by Roy Peter Clarke

I got this book as required reading during a course in my Masters degree! It is great!! It has short and tangible tips! I remember using it a lot during that course. Since doing the Mothertelling co-author project I have used it more. It’s a great tool!

Daily Creative by Todd Henry

This is a new creative tool for me but I am loving it. Each day there is a new creative prompt. A little note about it but then a journal or thinking prompt. I love the bite size inspiration!

The War of Art by Steven Pressfield

This book is short but sharp. It is a reminder that doing anything creative can be a struggle. But you need to show up and do it. You need to act like a professional and treat it like it matters in order to do it. It’s a great choice for when you need a good reminder that what you’re doing matters and is important!

The Element by Sir Ken Robinson

Without being dramatic I would say that Sir Ken Robinson’s TED Talk changed the trajectory of my life. You can watch it HERE. This book is an extension of that talk and I find it inspiring and motivating for why being creative is a strength!

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

You can watch the actual Last Lecture HERE! But the book is so good too. It was recommended to me by a colleague early in my teaching career and it is one of those books that puts things into perspective. I refer back to it frequently from the stories and lessons this dying man shares.

13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do by Amy Morin

I first heard Amy speak on a podcast and I knew I needed her book. I have listened to it twice and read it once so far! I have lent it out and have purchased the kids version. I really like the kind but toughness that this book offers but also the really practical tips to help strengthen your mindset.

Limitless by Jim Kwik

I also heard Jim Kwik on a podcast for the first time and knew I wanted to get his book. I have found what he teaches fascinating. As someone who works to be as on and clear as possible and teach others to do that same this book is so good to have in my back pocket!
